History

Probably late C18; a further unit was added to the L in the C19, either a separate dwelling or a service block. The building is shown on the Tithe Map of 1841.

Exterior

Tall 2-storey 3-window house of whitewashed random stone under a slate roof, with stone end stacks; the openings are offset slightly to the R. Later unit added to L end, of whitewashed stone and under the same roof-line, with brick end stack. Main range has central entrance with open gabled porch on timber posts with moulded barge boards and pendant finial; inside is a half-lit panelled door with 3-pane overlight. Small 4-pane horned sash windows with stone sills. These have stone lintels to lower storey and timber lintels above. No openings to N gable end. The additional unit has an inset half-lit panelled door to the far L and a 4-pane sash immediately to its R, both under the same late C20 lintel. Similar 4-pane sash aligned above, rising to eaves. uPVC window offset to S gable end.

To the rear is a lower 2-storey wing with stone end stack heightened in brick. The main range has a late C20 plain-glazed window to each storey to the L of the wing; small uPVC window immediately R of wing to upper storey. Further R, the additional unit has a uPVC window to lower storey, L of which is a small lean-to. In the N angle of the main range and wing is a small part-glazed lean-to porch with corrugated plastic roof containing a door leading into wing. To its R is a C20 top-hung window to each storey. Small lean-to with corrugated metal roof against gable end of wing, and continuous outshut on S side with one shallow window.

Interior

Central stair-hall with high ceiling and plain joists; straight wooden staircase to R side with narrow square-section balusters, turned newels, and moulded handrail. Living room to L has lower ceiling with 2 medium-chamfered spine beams; some of the joists are also chamfered. Wide stone fireplace with substantial timber lintel. Reception room to R not seen. Rear wing, now kitchen, is open to outshut, the dividing wall removed. Ceiling has 2 spine beams with shallow chamfers, and plain joists.

Listed as a substantial C18 vernacular farmhouse retaining traditional character.
