History

Graveslab of the ironmaster Robert Thompson Crawshay, died 1879. The Crawshay family ironworks at Cyfartha were the largest in the world by 1803, and Cyfartha Castle was built for William Crawshay II in 1824-5. R.T. Crawshay succeeded to the business, and ran it autocratically, supposedly the reason for the stark inscription.

ROBERT THOMPSON CRAWSHAY
DIED MAY 10TH 1879

GOD FORGIVE ME
Surrounding pink conglomerate stone coping carrying fine cast-iron railings with top and bottom horizontal rail, square section uprights with spearheads and cast-iron columns at corners with urns on short round pedestals.
