Small house possibly late C18, formerly thatched with 2-room ground floor and probably originally 2 rooms to loft, now one. In late C20 unheated N end room has been altered to a bathroom for Bryn Elim adjoining. The plaster partition removed then had woven blackberry laths. Marked on O.S. as No 51 but now part of No 52.
House, whitewashed rubble stone with corrugated iron roof and very small brick stack to left end. Attached at right end to Bryn Elim, No 52, and at left end to No 49. Two storeys, 2 tiny square windows each floor with single slab lintels and 4-pane casements, centre door. Rubble stone rear wall. Owned from early C20 by family of present owners, grandfather a miner in Craig-cefn-parc colliery.
Ground floor with fireplace at S end, 4 rough halved joists. Fireplace with late C19 grate marked Jones, Clydach, bread oven in wall to left of fireplace with iron lintel, recess to right of fireplace at ground level with iron lintel (possibly for drying boots). Front wall has small recess to right of right window. Window reveals are longer than windows with narrow sill at bottom of reveal. To right of fireplace is door to very narrow stone winding stair of some 8 steps to loft. Loft has thin collar-trusses to roof of pegged halved rough timbers.
Included as a very rare small vernacular house retaining special regional character.
