History

Built in 1891 as parish rooms for St Catherine's church, which was built in 1868.

Exterior

A 2-storey simple Gothic style church hall of snecked rock-faced sandstone with freestone dressings, and slate roof behind coped gables. The entrance is to the S gable end in a gabled porch with pointed doorway and double boarded doors. The porch is flanked by lancets, while upper centre is a 3-light window of which the central light is shorter and is crowned by a circular plate tracery light. Beneath the apex are 3 narrow openings. The 4-bay L side wall has lower-storey buttresses and pairs of tall pointed windows, while the upper storey has shorter pairs of windows with cusped heads. On the R side is a single bay similar to the L side, then a 3-window hipped-roof stair projection. This has double boarded doors facing the front beneath blind panel and shouldered lintel, and with 2-light window above lighting the stair. To the R of the projection is an added lean-to beneath single cusped lights to the upper storey. An added projection is to the rear (occupied by 'the Career Centre' at the time of inspection).

Interior

Inside is an open-well stair with turned balusters and newels. The upper storey, which has exposed trusses, was inaccessible at the time of inspection.
