History

The road through Llanarthney to Carmarthen was part of the Three Commotts Turnpike Trust system established in the late C18. The same trust became owners of the toll bridge at Llandeilo-yr-ynys, and no doubt erected this milestone on the link road.

Exterior

Late C18 milestone of limestone bearing the lettering: "From / Nantgaredig / 1 mile / To Porthyrhyd 3¾". The stone is about 500mm high by about 400mm wide, and about 150mm thick. The top is roughly rounded.

Reasons for Listing

Listed as a late-C18 milestone of characteristic local type.
