History

The revetment probably originated mid C17 when a terraced garden was laid out adjacent to the house. The house, originally a long house with attached byre, was gentrified when the byre was converted to a kitchen in 1649, and the terraced garden was probably part of the same phase of development.

Exterior

Rubble-stone revetment wall with stone steps at the W end, adjacent to the house. A short return at the E end has a stone trough with a grooved runner, and stone steps to R. At the W end, outside the E wing of the house, is a goose cot composed of stone slabs.

Reasons for Listing

Included for group value as an important component within this exceptional C16/C17 farm group.
