History

Part of Thomas Johnes' experimental farm of c1807-7, forming the W side of a 3-sided farm-court. The late C19 OS map shows some kind of link building between N end of barn and W end of the range with the farmhouse. The barn roof was replaced in C20 after a fire.

Exterior

Stone barn with corrugated roof. Walls have small square ventilation holes, two rows on E, facing yard, and one on W. E side is obscured by a later addition in corrugated iron, original door within to left. N gable has boarded door and loading door above. W side has large barn door to centre. S end has door with concrete lintel. At right angles, to S, stone boundary wall of farmyard drops down from circa 3m to circa 1.5m; gatepier at E end. The wall encloses the S side of the yard, with the similar wall attached to the cow-house opposite.

Interior

Five bays, with modern softwood trusses.
