Description

Early 19th century. 3-storey and attic, 3-bay, shallow L-plan tenement in irregular terrace with shop at ground. Sandstone ashlar to front, squared and snecked and rubble stone to rear, 1st floor cill cornice, eaves cornice and blocking course with panelled tablet.

E (PRINCIPAL) ELEVATION: pend to right at ground, pilaster to right with console and die, cornice above pend, modern shopfront to left, symmetrical 1st and 2nd floors, 2 prominent bow-fronted slate-hung dormers above.

S ELEVATION: adjoining 54 High Street.

N ELEVATION: adjoining 48 High Street to left, 4-storey wing to right, Ionic fluted pilastered doorpiece to left, deep entablature with 2 palmettes in frieze, panelled door, rectangular fanlight with decorative glazing, windows at 1st and 2nd above, small additional door to right.

W ELEVATION: 2-bay gable end of 4-storey section to right, pend of front block to left, door to left and right in pend, window at 1st and 2nd floors and dormer above.

12-pane and variety of replacement timber sash and case windows, plate glass lower sashes to E elevation at 1st floor. Grey slate roof; gablehead stack to W.

INTERIOR: not seen 1997.

BOUNDARY WALLS: rubblestone boundary walls to rear (W).
