Description

632/0/10030 CALTHORPE ROAD
17-MAR-04 Garden building to south east of Woodl
ands Vale

GV II
Summer house. Later C19. Rectangular structure with a base of stock brick in Flemish bond, the uppper part timberframed with ogee arches and plastered infill panels to the rear and four Jacobean style panels to the open front. The roof is hipped, currently covered in roofing felt, with copper finials. The interior has wooden seats. The building was designed to enjoy a view across a valley.
Possibly by S S Teulon (1812-1873) who designed a number of garden structures for Lord Calthorpe, but stylistically could be later. An intact later C19 summer house, which is part of a group of good garden stuctures at Woodlands Vale.
