Farmhouse. Late C16 timber-framed core with C18 alterations.
Rubble stone, with painted timber-frame on stone rubble plinth
with painted rendered infill panels to rear and side.
Plain-tile roofs with C19 ornamental bargeboards to front and
sides. Projecting stone gable-end and eaves stacks, and
integral ridge and eaves stacks, with diagonally-set double
brick shafts, and central stack with star-shaped double brick
shafts.
PLAN: L-shaped with main range with projecting gables, and
rear wing.
EXTERIOR: 2-storey and attic, with cellar to rear wing. South
front is 5-window range with advanced gabled bays forming bays
2 and 4. Right-hand bay has attic gable raised through eaves.
3-light casements to first floor, 2-light at attic, with 2-
and 3-mullion and transom windows at ground floor, with
restored leaded lights throughout. Advanced bay to right has
chamfered segmental-arched opening to integral porch: double
ovolo- and fillet-moulded door frame with run-out stops,
boarded oak door with nail studs and heavy iron strap hinges,
side benches incorporating C16-style panelling. Left-hand
return gable end: central stone stack with first-floor
hoodmould and ashlar coped offsets. To left is timber-frame
underbuilt in stone with first-floor moulded bressumer,
girding beam, jowled post, straight brace, middle rails,
studs, attic-level jettied tie beam with vertical studs.
Rear: 2 bays of close-studded timber-frame to right; jetty to
gable end visible to right, jetty brace, girding beam, former
window sill and head, high sill plate on stone rubble plinth
partly rebuilt in brick. To centre is stone gabled wall rising
above adjacent eaves line with 2-light casement to right and
projecting stone stack to left. Rear range masked at centre by
tiled roofed stone outshuts. To centre is advanced stone bay
with attic gable as front, with ovolo-moulded oak mullion
window with leaded lights at first floor and attic 2-light
casement with leaded lights. Projecting rear wing covers left
side.
Rear wing west side: 2-storey 2-window range with 2-light
casements at first floor, the left window only is leaded. To
ground-floor left is chamfered 2-mullion window partly leaded,
to right is beaded boarded door in plain oak door frame.
Cellar entrance boarded door to left. Rear wing gable covered
by single-storey tiled roofed extension to left, oak framed
cellar window to right with 3 barred lights between oak
mullions. Main range right return gable and rear wing east
side: main range gable with 3-light casement at first floor,
2-light casement in attic gable, 8/8 sash at ground floor and
masked to left by projecting tiled gabled storage extension.
Rear wing with 2-light casement to left at first floor and C20
casement under with plain boarded door with oak door frame.
INTERIOR: exposed ceiling beams and timber framing in sitting
room and kitchen.
