Stone mounting block, now base for inn sign. Probably late C17
or early C18. Flat slab set on plinth with flight of 3 stone
steps each side. Now surmounted by sign post for the Talbot
Hotel.
HISTORICAL NOTE: there is a tradition that the body of Prince
Arthur, eldest son of Henry VII and first husband of Katherine
of Aragon was laid on this block when it was taken from Ludlow
to Worcester Cathedral in 1502, but it is doubtful whether the
block is of this age.
