Corn Exchange, now offices. 1857, converted to commercial use
after 1889, to shops and offices in C20. Red brick with gault
brick dressings; slate roof and gable end brick stack.
EXTERIOR: 2-storey, 3-bay gabled front to street; to left, a
lower 2-storey 3-bay extension. Gabled front has false
external stack with weathering in the centre: on the ground
floor are three round-arched casement windows with
radial-glazing in the head, centre one piercing chimney stack.
On the first floor are two 4/4 unhorned sashes. Right return 4
bays, with casements to ground floor, two 4/4 unhorned sashes
to first floor.
Extension to left articulated on ground floor by Doric
pilasters carrying meagre entablature and framing C20
plate-glass display windows. On the first floor are two
tripartite horned sashes under cambered gauged skewback
arches. Modillion eaves cornice and small central pediment
inscribed Corn Exchange.
