Pair of semi-detached houses. Late C19. Painted brick with 2
plain 1st floor bands. Slated roofs with tall brick slab
stacks. 3 storeys. 2 windows each. Each with double gabled
front; gables to outer, slightly projecting bays have
projecting bracketed eaves. Entrances in outer bays with wide,
architraved, segmental-arched doorways having keystones,
fanlights and panelled doors with sidelights. Lugged
architraves to sashes. Ground floor, tripartite; 1st floor
outer bays, round-arched, inner bays, square-headed with
2-light casements; 3rd floor, sashes with pointed heads.
INTERIORS: not inspected.
SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: attached brick wall with panels and
stuccoed coping.
HISTORICAL NOTE: No.17 was the home of Katherine Mansfield,
writer and her husband John Middleton Murray, critic, from
1918-20 (GLC plaque).
