SX 48 SE CORYTON

Farmhouse. Circa late C17 with C19 alterations and C19 rear wing. Stone rubble,
whitewashed and rendered to the front. Slate roof hipped at right end, gabled at
left end. Rendered stack on ridge, brick shaft to rear. 2 or 3 room and through
passage plan with stack backing on to passage, inner room added or rebuilt circa C19.
Room at lower end now heated from probably C19 rear lateral stack. Rear wing added
in the C19 forming T-plan. 2 storeys. 4-window asymmetrical front with gabled stone
porch with C19 plank and cover strip front door leading into passage. C20 front door
and glazed porch on front at left. Change in plane of front indicates rebuilding or
addition at higher end of C17 hall. Two 3-light ground floor casements, 4-panes per
light. 4 similar first floor windows, slate sills throughout.
Interior: Large fireplace to stack on ridge has unmoulded timber fireplace lintel and
cloam oven. 1 chamfered cross beam with ogee stops. Remains of newel stair in
cupboard adjacent to fireplace. Rear door of the passage blocked. Pegged collar
rafter roof to main block.
