House, once 2 cottages, but originally probably a single house. Late C17 - early
C18, enlarged in C19 probably when subdivided, modernised circa 1960. Plastered cob
and granite stone rubble; stone rubble stack topped with plastered brick; thatch
roof.
Plan: originally a 2-room plan cottage facing south with central through passage
and gable-end stacks, the left one projecting. Originally a winder or newel stair
rising to rear of left stack. C19 unheated 1-room plan extension on right (east)
end. Present stairs in turret projecting to rear of central passage interrupting
secondary rear outshots. Main house is 2 storeys.
Exterior: irregular 4-window front of C20 casements with glazing bars. There are 2
front doorways, both containing C20 doors. The left one is in the position of the
original and has a C20 gabled and slate-roofed porch. The other at the right end to
the extension has a gabled C20 hood. Main roof is gable-ended to left and hipped to
right.
Interior: is largely the result of C19 and C20 modernisations but some original
plain carpentry shows. The right (now central) room fireplace is stone rubble with
a soffit-chamfered and scroll-stopped oak lintel. The left room fireplace is
blocked but a neatly soffit-chamfered crossbeam is exposed here. In the outside end
wall there is a tiny blocked window to the original stair; a plain oak frame
containing rectangular panes of leaded glass. Roof is not accessible but the bases
of straight principals show, from the probably original A-frame trusses.
