Block of firemen's flats. 1884-5. Designed by William Wimble
for the London Salvage Corps, in connection with their station
at 90-92 Upper Street (q.v.). Yellow brick set in English
bond, with dressings of red brick and gauged red brick, cast
and wrought iron to galleries, roof obscured by parapet. The
flats are on five storeys with access to upper floors by way
of galleries carried on cast-iron columns with foliage
capitals. Each flat has an entrance flanked by one window to
the left and two to the right, all openings being
segmental-arched and of gauged red brick. Staircase in
recessed wing to east, equivalent wing to west rebuilt to
incorporate a lift; the walls decorated with courses of red
brick; gallery railings probably a replacement design;
fifth-floor galleries under a lean-to roof.
