Description

NY 43 SW SKELTON LAMONBY

12/246 Lamonby Hall

II

House. Late C16 or early C17 with C20 alterations. Cement render over large
blocks of sandstone rubble, under graduated greenslate roof with banded
sandstone chimney stacks. 2½ storeys, 3 bays. Off-centre C20 door and casement
windows in C20 cement surrounds. Right return wall has blocked
chamfered-surround doorway and small blocked attic window; now with C20 windows
in cement surrounds. Left return wall has small blocked attic window. Rear has
outshut with C20 windows. Interior has large C16 or C17 segmental-arched stone
fireplace, the external wall at this point supported by a stepped buttress. A
fragment of floral carving incorporated in the fireplace arch, suggests the
reuse of medieval materials from the nearby chapel site. Right C20 extension is
not of interest.
