Terrace of 14 houses. c1790. Possibly by William Paty.
Limestone ashlar and render, party wall stacks and slate and
pantile mansard roofs. Double-depth plan. Late Georgian style.
Each of 3 storeys, attic and basement; 3-window range, Nos 3,
4 & 12-15 of 2 windows.
Terrace articulated by pilaster strips to a cornice and
parapet, Nos 5, 11 & 16 break forward, No.7 has a rusticated
ground floor and vermiculated basement, with plat bands to Nos
7 & 8. Left-hand doorcases have pilasters to entablature
blocks with triglyphs and pediment, semicircular-arched
doorways, metal fanlights and 6-panel doors. Entrance to No.16
in the right return has a central semicircular-arched doorway
with blocked surround, and first-floor oriel on cast-iron
columns; to the rear is a first-floor bowed oriel on tall
cast-iron columns. 6/6-pane sashes, No.16 has first-floor
6/6/6-pane triple sashes, and various C20 dormers. First-floor
balcony to No.10 has cast-iron brackets and decorative
railings and stanchions, and arched tented roof.
INTERIOR: entrance halls divided by semicircular-arched
doorways to rear dogleg stairs with stick balusters, column
newels and ramped rails; some with central lateral stairs.
SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: attached spear-headed basement area
railings and gates with finials; elaborate cast-iron railings
with spiked heads to No.10.
