The Ram Inn
GV II
Inn, now public house with flat. Mid C19 rebuilding on site of
inn established 1621. Colourwashed brick front above stuccoed
ground floor, yellow stock brick left (east) flank, plastered
and stuccoed rear elevation. Welsh slated roof above broad
eaves carried on shallow brackets grouped in 3s and 4s.
EXTERIOR: 3 storeys, 2 at rear. 4-bay front, including
carriageway at left, subdivided by pilasters. First floor has
alternating recessed 16 pane and triple 4:12:4-pane sash
windows beneath rubbed brick flat arches. Fascia and cornice
band at second-floor level. Second floor has squat 8-pane
sashes, alternating with triple C19 sashes now adapted with
opening casements. In centre bay is recessed panel with
modelled ram's head, and dated inscription above 'Established
1621' Ground floor in rusticated stucco, with central doorway,
recessed 8 panel door, 2 middle panels glazed, above stone
step, with pilaster surround and flat bracketed cornice hood.
To left, large C19 mullion and transom window, then, to right,
a 12 pane recessed sash window beneath channelled stucco
lintel and keyblock. Full width stucco plinth.
Rear elevation with 3 12-pane sashes, and late C20 external
entrance to manager's flat on first floor. Ground floor has
large late C19 bay, stuccoed, with dentil frieze, moulded
cornice and blocking course, and mullion and transom casements
with glazing bars.
INTERIOR: has C19 bar counters and dados: interior of flat not
inspected.
