Description

BRAMFORD TYE LANE
TM 04 NE
6/95
- Tye Farmhouse
- II

Farmhouse, late C17 with possible C16 core. 3-cell lobby-entrance plan. 2
storeys and attics. Timber-framed and rough-case. Plaintiled roof with axial
C17 chimney of red brick and another, C19 at gable. C20 casements; at the
rear are various C18/early C19 casements. C19 panelled entrance door, the
upper panel glazed with border panes. 1-storey brick and plaintiled open
porch. The house is constructed in the late C17 manner with straight primary-
bracing in the walls, slender 1st floor joists, and a butt-purlin roof with
principal rafters; however many main components are from a C16 house,
suggesting a major or total rebuilding in C17. A large C17 open fireplace in
the hall. To the rear is a 1-storey plaintiled C17/C18 service wing.
