7 pairs of houses, 2nd quarter of C19, Each house 2 storeys, attic and basement,
2 windows. Moderately low pitched, slated roof with gable end to road in form
of central pediment over cornice and frieze supported by 4 giant pilasters
resting on basement plinth. All fronts stuccoed. In tympanum, 2 round arched
windows and central blank arch with keystone, all having moulded architraves.
lst floor recessed sash windows in moulded architraves, most retaining glazing
bars. Band at lst-floor cills. Ground floor very long 3-light sash windows
under segmental arch, with moulded architraves and console bracketed cornices.
Paired, flat columns at either side of doors in outer bays. Some houses are
3 windows wide, being extended by added outer bays. Nos 11, 13 and 19-27 have
prostyle porches with modified entablature. Nos 31 and 33 have blind cases to
windows. Nos 23 and 25 have plain, l-light sash windows; No 25 has rusticated
ground floor. Nos 19 and 21 have an extra window added at either side of tympanum.
No 19 has decorative cast iron loggia with swept roof now renewed in corrugated
iron. Nos 15 and 17 have plain, l-light ground floor windows as has No 11.
Ground floor window of No 13 modernised. No 15 has 2-storey, l-window modern
extension at left. No 7 has had a porch, but now has flat entablature surround.
No 9 has new entrance with 2 doors for conversion to flats.
This is an outstanding group in an important position overlooking heath.

Nos 1 to 37 (odd) including Gatepiers and walls to No 1, form a group.
