House, early to mid C19, painted stuccovilla with shallow hipped slate
roof on projecting eaves with brackets and cornice. 2-storeys, plinth
and moulded floorband. E. front has 3 bays of sashes in architrave
surrounds, cornices and console brackets to ground floor, LH window
blocked. Projecting central porch with angle pilasters, cornice, 3
semicircular headed openings, 2 blocked, with keyblocks, moulded imposts,
door to LH side. S. elevation has 2-storey canted bay to RH and coat of
arms in panel on LH with sash above; W, elevation has square bay to LH with
balcony with convex railings and canopy on brackets. N. wing has 3 bay
centre block. Ground floor centre window has cornice on brackets. ½
bay link to main house, lower wing to N. end. House built-by Dr. Lee
of Hartwell; the residence of Admiral W.H. Smyth, Scientist and antiquary
author of "Aedes Hartwelliane" published 1851.
