3 houses built as a block. C18 with some early C20
refenestration. Timber-framed and plastered on red brick
plinth, red brick stacks, thatched roof. Plan rectangular. 2
storeys. Front S elevation (Nos 38 & 40). 2 boarded doors, 4
window range with one additional window on ground floor. 1
ground floor and 3 first floor C18 iron casement windows with
rectangular leaded panes, rest C20 2-light casements. Roof
hipped with large central Cl8 rectangular stack through front
roof pitch. Rear N elevation: integral lean-to, thatched roof
continued down, second large stack through rear roof pitch
similar and in line with first. Lean-to has one large C18 iron
casement window with leaded panes at E end. 2 similar 2-light
casements with moulded architraves, one small casement window.
`Eyebrow' dormer window at W end with 2-light casement window.
W end elevation: hipped gable end of house with rear lean-to,
boarded door of No.36 with adjacent C18 2-light iron casement
window with leaded panes. First floor, early C20 2-light
casement window. E end elevation: boarded door. Early C20
2-light casement window on first floor.
INTERIOR not inspected but seen to have slender studding and
similar ceiling joists of C18 type.
