House. C18 and early C19. Timber-framed and ashlar rendered
but with painted and rendered brick front. Roof is gabled and
of slate with projecting stacks on centre line of each gable,
2 storeys attics and cellar.
Front, has 2 flat roofed small plain dormers. First floor has
five 12-paned double hung sash windows with shaped external
valances. On ground floor are 2 canted parapeted bay windows
with stucco cornices and double-hung sash windows with central
vertical glazing bars. Central pedimented Tuscan doorcase with
half columns enclosing banded pilasters and wall with
ashlaring. Double keystone over semicircular arched door
opening. Door is of 4 raised and fielded panels, fanlight with
fan pattern glazing bars in upper part. Flight of 8 stone
steps with early C19 wrought-iron handrail and cross pattern
supports, now linked to curved mid C19 cast-iron spear topped
railings enclosing raised planting beds. 2 bootscrapers to
flanks of steps. The N flank elevation reveals flank of rear
wing, all ashlar rendered with full flank stack with some blue
headers. Double-hung sash window on first floor with 30 small
panes, over 2-light casement. Rear elevation has projecting
gabled stair tower and 2-storey extension with lean-to roof
and projecting upper floor. Rear wing, to N has hipped slate
roof and small-pane double-hung sash on first floor. Fireplace
with fluted frieze in S ground floor room. Rear wing has, on
first floor, remarkable small room, (garden room?) of mid C18
painted panelling with full height fluted Doric pilasters
enriched frieze and eared over-mantel panel. On the E wall,
projecting wing walls enclose a window seat with 12 pane
double-hung sash with thick glazing bars and folding shutters
in the flanks.
