Farmhouse. Late C17, with alterations probably of late C18 - early C19 and some C20
alterations. Slatestone rubble. Slate roof with ridge tiles, some hand-made crested
ridge tiles surviving ; roof hipped at right, with rear lateral stack with C20 brick
shaft to right ; gable end to left with gable end stack with C20 brick shaft.
Plan: 2-room plan with cross passage. The hall/kitchen is to right, heated from a
rear lateral stack. Parlour to left, heated from a gable end stack. Circa late C18
- early C19, a stair was inserted in the rear of the passage, dividing to right and
left. At about the same time, the right end of the hall/kitchen was partitioned as a
dairy, and a single storey cider house was added to the rear of the parlour, with a
doorway at the left side.
Exterior: 2 storeys, asymmetrical 3-window front. First floor has early C19 24-pane
sash to right and left, with small central C19 2-light casement. Ground floor has
central 4-panelled door with hipped slate hood ; C19 20-pane sash to left and C20 3-
light casement to right, 2-lights to the hall/kitchen and one light to the dairy.
Small corrugated iron lean-to attached to front left. Right end has C20 window at
first floor to right. Left end blind with open-fronted corrugated iron lean-to. At
the rear, the cider house is single storey, with a plank door at the side and a 6-
pane light to rear. 2-light 4-pane casement lighting the stair. External stack with
unusually large curved oven at the base. 2-light casement at ground floor to left.
Interior: The hall/kitchen has roughly hewn beams. Wooden partition to the dairy to
end right, which has a wooden bacon-rack probably of circa early C19. The fireplace
has been slightly reduced in size with a C20 range inserted. In the passage, the
walls of each side are wooden panelled partitions. The parlour has C19 beams and C20
fireplace. On the first floor, the feet of the principal rafters are visible, all
straight and saw-cut, probably C19. All walls at first floor are wooden partitions.
