Farmhouse. Probably late C16 or early C17, possibly with earlier origins. Rendered
stone rubble and cob. Rag slate roof with gable ends. Projecting stone rubble and
cob end stack on left and brick axial stack near centre. Brick shaft to axial stack
on rear slope.
Plan: Original plan uncertain. Possibly a 3-room and through or cross passage plan
with entrance to right of centre, hall on higher left hand side heated by axial
stack backing onto passage and inner room beyond on left heated by end stack. It is
uncertain whether the lower end on right was unheated. Shippon added on right
probably in C18. Alternatively, the house may have had a 2-room and passage plan
which now comprises the left hand side of the present house, and which was extended
with a third room on right in later C17 and shippon beyond in C18. Outshut
extension added to rear of left hand room containing dairy, probably in C18 and the
outshut to rear of lower end is circa later C18.
Exterior: 2 storeys. Asymmetrical 3-window front with shippon on right. To the
left a 3-light window and C20 door with 1-light casement near centre. C19 door to
right of centre, probably the original entrance and C20 window and plank door to
right. First floor has 3 probably C19 2-light casements.
Interior: Fireplaces blocked and the ceiling beams are not visible. C19 or early
C20 stair inserted in central room. Roof structure over higher end on left
comprises 3 A-frame trusses with morticed apices and collars dovetailed with curved
notches and lap-jointed onto face of principals. The principals are clean although
the rafters and ridge are blackened but are roughly cut. Above the passage and
lower end the roof structure is probably C18. The eaves were raised in the late C18
or early C19 and there is a secondary roof structure above the earlier timbers.
