SS 21 SW MORWENSTOW COOMBE

3/92 Nos 1 and 2 Mill House (formerly
29.9.61 listed as Combe Mill Cottage and
Cottage and tea room at Combe Mill)

2 adjoining houses. Probably late C17/early C18 origins, C19 and C20 alterations.
Colourwashed stone. Wheat straw thatched roof at right end, lower slate roof at
left end. Brick chimney to left gable end, brick chimney on stone stack at right
gable end, large projecting lateral stone stack to rear with brick shaft.
Accommodation of No. 1 is partly under slate roof and partly under thatched roof.
Only 2 rooms of the original house now extant, the original plan perhaps with
baffle entry at right alternatively through centre of front into hall on left with
rear lateral stack. The right hand room, lean-to and rear outshut now No.2. No. 1
is now 2 rooms wide with entrance into stair hall, No. 2 now L plan. 2 storeys. 1
+ 2 window range. No. 1 has central C20 front door, 2 ground floor 2 light C20
casements, 6 panes per light, 2 similar first floor windows under brick heads. No.
2 has C20 front door on right of front, similar window to ground floor, 1 to first
floor under insitu concrete lintels. C20 2-light casement, 3 panes per light in
lean-to. Interior of No. 1 has massive fireplace to ground floor right with
roughly-chamfered fireplace beam, slate floor. Interior of No. 2 not inspected.
Repaired for the Landmark Trust by P Pearn of Plymouth, circa 1975. The Landmark
