Church. 1930-32. Bernard Miller. Brick with stone
dressings, tile roof. 4-bay nave, crossing tower and
transepts, 2-bay chancel and flanking chapels. West front
(ritual west is actual south) has parabolic-arched recess
and stone surround to similar window over architraved
entrance with enriched keystone. Stepped niche above. Low
side walls have gate openings with architraves and tiled
ridges. Nave windows are parabolic arches. Transepts similar
to west front with low flat-roofed porches to west, now
vestries(l984). Crossing tower is low, with 3 segmental-
headed windows and stone coping. Chancel similar to nave,
chapels have triple round-headed side windows. South chapel
has entrance with bell-shaped bell-cote above. Court yard
to east of church has 3-bay cloisters with round arches, 3
round arched gates to north, small windows to south, Church
hall to east, stone Byzantine style aedicule with foundation
stone to west. Interior: has parabolic vaults with
transverse ribs on low walls. Chancel arch has relief of
dove and angels, flanking fan-shaped light fittings in
angles. Chancel has low wall with bows flanking gates, and
shaped architraves behind altar. Font in form of 8-pointed
star with mirrored sides. Some light fittings in nave and
north chapel; choir stalls.Millers's most original church and
c of the best of the period between the wars.
