Service building. c1840, perhaps to the designs of Anthony Salvin, who was
active at Helmingham Hall (qv) in c1841. Weatherboarded and brick with
moulded brick stack to short arm. Pantiled roofs to main ranges and facing-
gable dormers, with ornamental vergeboards and slightly swept eaves. Two
storeys. L-plan forming a yard to the southwest. All openings flat arched.
Outshut to the north. One large facing gable over double doors set in long
arm of L; smaller dormer to short arm, to the right of the stack; entrance
under gabled canopy porch to the outer corner of short arm. Picturesque style
combining vernacular forms with those of the 'cottage orne' tradition.
Cottages 3-8, 15-20, the Estate Yard, the Old Post Office near the cross
roads to the north, and the Old Forge form a group.
